GROUNDS

63 DIGITAL SKETCHES ON THE THEME OF URBAN RECREATIONAL LANDSCAPES

The idea was to return to the kind of suburban landscapes explored in GARDEN PATH (2018) which is to say, nature at its most obviously compromised. GROUNDS explores more open, distant spaces, although the title covers other meanings; firstly as the base (or basis) for painting, secondly as a warranted situation for legal dispute. The two, I think are not unconnected. Mainly I see the series opening out my view of nature, taking in a longer perspective.

I thought of the grounds as covering various community activities, including schools, and with that uniforms and common gestures and poses; all these according to season and hour. My return to landscape is thus focused on time and transience.
